  6. All of you, thank you. That longlist was packed with deserving books. As is the shortlist. I don’t envy the people with the job of judging. I’d hate to have to make such decisions myself.
What can I say? Thank you.

  8. Sriram says:

Congrats and all the best Rimi. I will look up the book soon; the strange thing is I had read all others even before the longlist.

Just thought will share this amazing information….Indiaplaza.in, one of India’s leading online shopping destination has instituted the Indiaplaza Golden Quill Book Awards. This annual award is aimed at encouraging quality writing amongst Indian authors. Leading publishing houses in India have been invited to nominate their best books published in 2007. Five books will be short listed and evaluated by an eminent panel of judges for the final “Critics’ Choice Award”. The readers will nominate the “Reader’s Choice Award” through the online voting system. The winners will win the “Golden Quill” trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The award will be given to an Indian author domiciled in India for original full length novel or a work of fiction in English or a translation into English of an original full length novel or work of fiction of any Indian language published in India in the previous calendar year. The panel includes Sir Mark Tully, writer and theatre critic Shanta Gokhale, Anita Nair, and novelist Mahasweta Devi. Rimi, I loved your book. Read it before the list was out .Came across it quite by chance. But then, that’s another story 🙂 I think awards like Crossword and Indiaplaza (http://www.indiaplaza.in/Goldenquill) help us increase the awareness of books like yours in the market. It’s a pity that so many good books dont get read because they are not ‘international’.Anyways, winner or not, I liked your book. Keep it going. 🙂

  11. @ ankita
Yes I know about Indiaplaza. Unfortunately Penguin didn’t choose to submit my book for it (they said so). Clearly I neglected to do something important here.
    @ Sushumna
Thanks very much. It always means a lot to me when people I don’t know write to say they liked my book. It tells me that I’m getting through the silence to actual readers. Forget about ‘international’, even Delhi exposure doesn’t happen for writers here on the eastern margin. You’ve made my day. Thank you.
